The Linear Story

From its formation in 1977, Linear has developed a reputation as a reliable provider of advanced TV broadcasting and signal transport equipment. Our success is clearly evident within Latin America where Linear has been the prominent manufacturer of TV Transmitters in countries ranging from Mexico to Argentina, including Brazil, for decades. Linear’s line of equipment includes VHF and UHF TV transmitters from 1W to 20,000W, exciters, encoders, gap-fillers, as well as analog and digital microwave systems. Collectively, we have manufactured and installed nearly 30,000 forms of equipment in more than 40 countries worldwide.

Milestones



1977 – Linear Equipamentos Eletronicos is started as an incubator business by a group of engineering professors on the campus of INATEL, in Santa Rita do Sapucaí, Minas Gerais, Brazil.


1978 – The first Low Power TV Transmitter is designed and delivered to meet the needs of the Brazilian and surrounding Latin American markets.




1979 – Immediate and rapid growth during a period
of Brazil’s economic prosperity drive LINEAR
to expansion.


1983 – LINEAR develops satellite receivers for the consumer markets and the launching of satellite coverage across Brazil.


1990 – With satellite receivers as a cornerstone business
and new microwave solutions in development, LINEAR
enters the Professional broadcast products market.


1998 – Expansion leads to the opening of a
final assembly and customer-care facility in Ilhéus-BA.


2003 – Digital development to the ATSC standard begins and product is introduced in 2004.


2005 – Research and development across multiple digital standards in becomes a central focus and operations expand to prepare for the digital TV market.


2006 – LINEAR invests and launches a US based sales and service operation, with its base facility centrally located in the Chicago market.


2007 – Delivery of the first LINEAR AT7001 Digital Exciter with Automatic Pre-correction for the ATSC Market. The product is soon recognized for its superior performance and becomes a preferred exciter for digital flash-cuts.


2007 – LINEAR plays an active lead in the definition and development of the Brazilian version of the ISDB-T standard and delivers ISDB-Tb.







2009 – Automatic pre-correction exciters are incorporated as standard equipment into LINEAR’s full line of ISDB-Tb and ATSC transmitters from 200W and above.


2010 – ATSC A/153 Mobile DTV becomes a feature of the AT7001 Exciter is proven to interoperate with other manufacturer’s multiplexers.


2010 – A new, state-of-the-art manufacturing plant is acquired 5km from LINEAR Headquarters– increasing production capacity by 300%.


2010 – Linear receives the Premiere Award from the Brazilian Society of Television Engineering at SET 2010, for the company’s development and launch of a Single Frequency Network in Brazil.


Today, Linear continues to explore new opportunities and invest significantly in R&D to develop and improve its product portfolio that better serves the needs of its customers.
